Painting With Camilla d'Errico

Local Vancouver artist Camilla d'Errico was kind enough to give a short painting demo along with a Q&A with the audience. She shared with everyone some of her tricks, techniques and some quirky facts about herself.

The AE Console Gaming Room!

The console gaming room once again entertained those who were looking for their home away from home at the convention (in regards to gaming).
Such favourites as the Wii and Xbox were present along with more oddball consoles like Nintendo's Virtual Boy. They even had a full blown para para machine!

Charity Auction

This years charity auction once again raised money for a good cause. Items for auction included signed DVDs, rare posters and art prints, plus wacky items from our guests. Hosted by Loaded Ready Run, over $2500 was raised for the B.C. Childrens hospital.

In case you were busy elsewhere at the convention, check out some of the things people were able to walk away with!

Closing Ceremonies

After an action packed weekend of anime, cosplayers, manga, internet celebrities, gaming, a lot of walking around plus a whole lot of other stuff, Anime Evolution 2010 has come to a close. We thank all of you for coming and making this year possible.

Loaded Ready Run performed their one last task for us and hosted the Closing Ceremonies. They were kind enough showed some pictures they took from the weekend from their "camera'. The Gauntlet and Anime Idol also came to their conclusion with Imran clenching 1st place in the Gauntlet and Karmon winning Anime Idol. Congratulations to all who participated!

Thank you all for coming to Anime Evolution 2010 and we hope you come back next year!

Final Fantasy Fight Tournament: Open Battle

Sunday's open Final Fantasy Fight Tournament was another success! Cosplayers from the crowd itself battled it out using their characters fighting moves in the usual Final Fantasy styled turn based on stage battles. The event may be over but these awesome images are here to stay!

Worst Cosplay Contest

The ugly twin brother of the Cosplay Contest, The Worst Cosplay Contest was held at the War Memorial Gym. Hosted by none other than the Spanish Inquisition, contestants battle it out over three rounds to determine who is the worst of the mediocre.

A surprise winner awaits those who dare see what lies beyond the jump.

The Beautiful Losers

The Beautiful Losers came to play at Anime Evolution's Main Stage at the UBC War Memorial Gym on Saturday night. Check out some photos from their wonderful heartfelt performance.

The Gauntlet - Round 3

The Gauntlet proceeded to round three with swiftness.
Round 3 contenders played Pokemon Puzzle League. Two contestants are left to have one last round of gauntlet in a mystery game to be played at the closing ceremonies.

Cosplay Chess

This year's cosplay chess once again pitted the forces of good against the forces of evil. Who came out on top? Well, the game ended in a stalemate. One of the players also learned that he can't have his cake and eat it too.

Gundam Building Contest

Anime Evolution once again held a Gundam modelling contest. A room full of enthuastic gundam builders attempted to envision a gundam better than their neighbours for prizes.

Through the darkness filled room of console challenges, the list of contenders dwindle as the competition become tougher.

Cosplay Cafe

Now becoming an annual event, the cosplay cafe was once again in operation at Anime Evolution. Operated by a dedicated staff of cosplayers, people were invited to kick back and have a drink or snack served by their favourite anime characters.

Fans of Dragonball Z Abridged meet together for the Team Four Star Panel to meet guests and a special premier.

An euthsiastic crowd cheered for the contestants as they performed on-stage for everyone to see.
The War Memorial Gym in UBC became very busy as the event continued into the evening.

Anime Evolution 2010 Pre Convention Coverage!

Another day till Anime Evolution 2010 begins officially!

This years edition is being held at the University of British Columbia. Staff were busily setting up the convetion grounds for another weekend of shows, panels, demonstrations, gaming and a lot more.

Attendees were also present on convetion grounds to pick up their passes and take a look at some of the available convention spaces.

Richmond Public Night Market - AE Booth

Anime Evolution made an appearance at the Richmond Public Night Market this year during this past weekend. August 6th to 8th.

The first AE cosplay calendar made it's debut at the booth and is being sold to the public for 12 dollars. It will also be available at the convention until supplies last! Get one now!

On the night of August 8th, AE got the chance to take the stage and present the hype that everyone is setting up for.

Geeks in the Park at Central Park

Fan Fair Fest, Vancouver's own pop culture convention, and Anime Evolution got together last weekend at Central Park in Burnaby to host Geeks in the Park, a summer cosplay meet up! Cosplayers from the Vancouver area came down for a potluck on a lovely sunny day. Even the owner of GottaCon made it down for some potluck food. Some games were played and good time was had by all who made it. AE's own staff photographers, Austin and Simon bring you photos from last weekends event.

AE at Burnaby Heights Hats Off Day Parade

Anime Evolution was once again present at the 2010 Burnaby Heights Hats Off Day. Hats Off Day is where "Heights merchants 'take their hats off' to their community and their customers and the entire Heights community celebrates together". A small group of cosplayers came out early in the morning to participate in the parade itself while other staff members and volunteers prepared the booth for people to visit throughout the day. Pamphlets were handed out to promote AE 2010. There was even an impromptu performance of "Hari Hari Yukai" for everyone to see and enjoy.

We Love The Con Day!

This year, the local community supporting Anime Evolution held "We Love The Con Day" to hype up the community for the 2010 convention year. It was held at Stanley Park miniature train picnic area on a gorgeous sunny day. Many local con-goers and supporters were in attendance with over 80 people present. Activities included Whose Line Is It Anyway? Anime Edition, half litre football, sneaky statues, an abbreviated cos-play contest and Pip's Improv, along with the usual meet-up happenings. Anime Evolution's Lord Dolphin was present to give away a gold pass by means of a pop quiz contest. Kirby Kandy was the lucky winner of an Anime Evolution 2010 Gold Pass. Congratulations!

Anime Evolution visits GottaCon 2010!

Anime Evolution took a trip to Vancouver Island this weekend to take part in Victoria's premier gaming convention: GottaCon. Now in its' second year, GottaCon featured a large assortment of tabletop, console and LAN based gaming, along with like-minded dealers and sponsors, and over 800 attendees! We did our part to join in the fun too, hosting their first costume contest, along with giving away free T-Shirts and other items. We look forward to being there again in 2011 for their third year running, February 4th to 6th!

J-Fest Photos

After a two year hiatus J-Fest, a one day only "mini convention", celebrating local anime fandom and popular culture made its return. Run by Anime Evolution and sponsored in part by Glico and GameDeals.ca it was held at Douglas College's New Westminster campus on January 23 2010. Highlights of this year J-Fest Included an Aritst's Alley, cosplay tutorials, video gaming and panels related to Japanese culture and anime fandom.
